Horizontal Lathe

Ankay Büküm performs horizontal turning of cylindrical parts, shafts, bushings, and boring operations.

What Is Horizontal Lathe Machining?

Horizontal lathe turning is one of the fundamental machining methods in which a workpiece rotates on a horizontal axis and is shaped by cutting tools. It is used for machining external and internal surfaces of cylindrical, conical, and stepped-form parts. At Ankay Büküm in Ankara's Ostim Industrial District, we operate universal and CNC-controlled horizontal lathes with capacity for parts up to 3000 mm in length and DN800 in diameter. We serve a broad product range including shafts, bushings, pistons, cylinders, and custom machine parts.

Application Areas

  • Machine Manufacturing: Gearbox shafts, pump shafts, hydraulic cylinder bodies, and custom machine parts
  • Penstock and Energy: Valve stems, actuator rods, turbine shaft components, and connection elements
  • Mining and Cement: Conveyor drum shafts, crusher shaft parts, and heavy industry bushing and bearing elements
  • Agricultural Machinery: Axle shafts, PTO shafts, gear shafts, and agricultural equipment cylinder parts
  • Defense and Automotive: Precision-tolerance shaft and bushing parts, cylindrical connection elements, and custom niche components

Technical Capacity and Specifications

Our horizontal lathes machine parts up to 3000 mm turning length and DN800 external diameter. Internal boring processes holes up to DN600 in diameter with precision. CNC-controlled machines achieve tolerances down to +/- 0.02 mm. Threading, groove milling, taper turning, and stepped machining are performed. Capacity covers steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and bronze materials.

Quality Assurance

In-process measurement and control is applied during horizontal lathe operations. Every part is verified post-machining with micrometers, dial indicators, and CMM when required. Surface roughness is adjustable between Ra 0.8 and Ra 6.3. Production follows our EN ISO 9001 quality management system.

Ankay Büküm provides horizontal lathe machining services from single pieces to serial production. Our expert team serving all of Turkey from our Ankara Ostim facility is ready to meet your shaft, bushing, cylinder, and custom part manufacturing needs. Submit your technical drawings and let us start the quotation and feasibility study promptly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is horizontal lathe machining and what is it used for?
