Oxy-fuel Cutting

Ankay Büküm performs oxy-fuel (oxygen) cutting of low-alloy steel plates in 6-300 mm thickness.

What Is Oxy-fuel Cutting?

Oxy-fuel cutting (oxygen cutting) is a thermal cutting process in which steel is first heated to ignition temperature and then cut by a high-purity oxygen stream that oxidizes the material. It provides a cost-effective solution particularly for thick plate cutting and is used effectively for thicknesses from 6 mm to 300 mm. At Ankay Büküm in Ankara's Ostim Industrial District, our CNC-controlled oxy-fuel cutting unit and manual oxy-fuel equipment precisely cut low-alloy steel plates. This method is indispensable for projects requiring thick materials such as heavy steel construction, penstock pipes, and shipbuilding.

Application Areas

  • Heavy Steel Construction: Cutting beams, columns, and connection plates in thicknesses of 30 mm and above
  • Penstock Fabrication: Sizing thick-wall penstock segment plates, flange and stiffener plate cutting
  • Shipbuilding and Shipyards: Hull plate cutting, keel plates, and thick-wall structural parts
  • Mining Equipment: Bucket plates, wear-resistant Hardox plate cutting, and heavy equipment body parts
  • Pressure Vessels and Tanks: Thick-wall pressure vessel body plates, dome sections, and rim flange plates

Technical Capacity and Specifications

Our CNC oxy-fuel cutting unit has a 3000x12000 mm table size. Low-alloy and carbon steel plates from 6 mm to 300 mm are cut. Multi-torch system cuts multiple parts simultaneously for increased efficiency. Cutting accuracy is +/- 1 mm, and surface quality is evaluated per ISO 9013. Cost advantage over plasma cutting is particularly significant above 80 mm thickness. Bevel (weld preparation) cutting is also performed on the same machine.

Quality Assurance

Oxy-fuel cut surface roughness, perpendicularity, and burr condition are inspected per ISO 9013. Appropriate heat input parameters are applied to minimize the heat-affected zone (HAZ) in thick plates. Post-cut dimensional verification and material certificate matching are performed.

Ankay Büküm provides oxy-fuel cutting solutions for heavy industry projects requiring thick plates. From our Ankara Ostim facility, we serve the cutting needs of penstock, steel structure, shipbuilding, and mining sectors. Contact us for plate cutting needs up to 300 mm thickness, and we will generate cutting programs from your CAD drawings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is oxy-fuel cutting and what is it used for?

Oxy-fuel cutting heats steel to ignition temperature and cuts it with a high-purity oxygen stream through oxidation. Used for cutting 6-300 mm thick steel plates. The most cost-effective solution for thick plates.

What materials can be oxy-fuel cut?

Low-alloy and carbon steel plates are cut. Oxy-fuel cutting cannot be applied to stainless steel or aluminum; plasma cutting is used for those materials.

What is Ankay Büküm's oxy-fuel cutting capacity?

3000x12000 mm table CNC machine cuts up to 300 mm thickness. Multi-torch system provides high efficiency. Bevel cutting is also available.

What is the difference between oxy-fuel and plasma cutting?

Oxy-fuel cuts carbon steels in 6-300 mm and is more economical for thick plates. Plasma cuts all conductive metals in 0.5-80 mm and is more precise on thin materials.

How are pricing and delivery times determined?

Pricing is based on plate thickness, cutting length, and part quantity. Standard cutting jobs are delivered in 1-3 business days. Send your CAD drawings for a quotation.
